Weekly Digest: Sept 26
Hello everybody, before we get into the updates, events, mutual aid, and opportunities to get involved in the local community, I would first like to say something about the state-sanctioned lynching of Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams.
Khaliifah should still be alive. We should hesitate to frame this fact in the context of ciminality and innocence because regardless of that, the death penalty is inhumane, cruel, and Khaliifah should still be alive. It did not matter to the state that he maintained his innocence, it did not matter how many calls, faxes, letters, videos, or posts were made, the state decided that Khaliifah Williams deserved to die. This is the system working exactly as intended, and this damned system must be dismantled for a better world. A better world is possible without prisons, capitalism, federalism, electoralism, all of the ‘isms’ and ‘ists’. We cannot go on like this.
So I’ll reiterate, Khaliifah Williams deserved to live. He was a poet, imam, brother, father, son, and none of those things are justifications or prerequisites for deserving life. Khaliifah Williams deserved to live because we all are deserving of living.
We must abolish the systems that created the conditions for Khaliifah Williams to be lynched by the state of Missouri and the Genocidal United States.
Abolish Prisons. Abolish the Death Penalty. Abolish the ‘nation’ known as the United States.
Rest in Power Khaliifah Williams.
