Local Happenings

Unsurprisingly, Robert E. Lee is now UNC’s permanent chancellor. There’s a lot of things that can be said, but this UNC SJP post is a good look into why the university functions the way it does.  

Earlier today, people gathered in Durham for a vigil honoring Heather Heyer, Sonya Massey, Philando Castile, Garrett Foster, Nyah Mway and all victims of facist, police violence. Today was the 7th anniversary of Charlottesville.

Opportunities/Events/Ways to Get Involved Outside of CJAA

Call the DA to help demand amnesty for ALL defendants facing charges related to the Triangle Gaza Solidarity Encampment.

Yesterday was the Raleigh Really Really Free Market. If you missed it, don’t worry! There’s a Durham RRFM this Saturday from 11am-1pm.
This Saturday, at 6pm, there will be a benefit show at Attic 506 for political prisoners, legal fees and commissary support!
On Sunday, join RUMAH for a FREE self defense class from 1-3pm.

Also this Sunday is the Triangle Guerilla Cinema screening of Spaces of Exception at CCB Plaza.
Join the One Body Initiative for a community sale next Saturday where all proceeds will go to essential aid in Gaza.
Also on August 24th is the 9th annual Black August in the Park will be held in Durham Central Park! Black August is an event commemorating Black revolutionaries who have been unfairly imprisoned and killed.
