Local Happenings and Upcoming Events

Last Wednesday, UNC’s favorite sex offenders received a blood-stained shout-out from proud war criminal Netanyahu, to the delight of many in Congress. This unfaltering commitment to genocide again reinforces the great need for community building and organization against the forces of evil working tirelessly in Washington D.C. and abroad. Make your voices heard. Free Palestine.

UNC SJP posted this in response to Netanyahu’s speech.

Reminder that the Tabadul Collective is hosting Aflam al Sudan, an evening of films about Sudanese culture and revolution! They are also selling Sudan-themed shirts! RSVP is required for the event. All ticket and merch sales will go to the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA).

Support Palestinian artists by attending an art exhibition and print/vendor sale next week! In these times of turmoil, we must continue to celebrate Palestinian creative expression.

The Beloved Community Center will hold a 10-day march on September 20-29 from Cullowhee, NC to Wilmington, NC to amplify the voices of all North Carolinians through community organizing, voting initiatives, grassroots education, and art.

The Marian Cheek Jackson Center is holding a pool party at Hargraves Community Center, the location of Chapel Hill’s first public pool for Black residents, to celebrate its history and Hargraves’s integral role as a space for Black organizing and excellence! Reserve your spot now!

Peace, Love, & Abolition,

CJAA Exec

CJAA (Community Justice, Abolition, & Antiracism collective) is an abolitionist, student-led movement agitating against the carceral state, prison-industrial complex, zionism, policing, white supremacy, imperialism, colonialism, and all forms of oppression — in UNC, Amerikkka, and abroad. We are dedicated to local action and community justice as tools for building a world in which carcerality is obsolete. We hold firmly that our criminal legal system is the result of a white supremacist state that is not broken but is working precisely as intended. As a community of Queer, BIPOC, and marginalized peoples, we work to actively dismantle this white supremacist system, while creating equitable systems of justice and a world based in empathy and compassion. We hold true that awareness is most powerful when acted upon. We are committed to not only calling on people in positions of power, but on ourselves to do the work necessary to change our immediate community. We aim to cultivate a space that allows for vulnerability and growth while acknowledging the value of impact over intentions. CJAA views itself as a movement within the larger movement for liberation around the world, and we acknowledge that our work is interconnected in the fight against all forms of oppression.
